DESCRIPTION: Grand Rapids Clock & Mantel Co., Grand Rapids, Michigan, 9 tube hall clock, 8 day, time, strike and chime, weight driven European movement playing Whittington or Westminster tune in mahogany case with crotch mahogany veneer front and sides and beveled glasses. The brass arched dial has a silvered chapter ring with applied brass numerals, cast spandrels and dial center, moon phase, selection for tunes or silent, and second's bit, c1910
CONDITION: the mahogany veneer case retains its original finish rubbed down and waxed with a few small veneer repairs and some deterioration and loss of finish to base. The beveled glass on the left side has been replaced with plain glass. The silvered chapter and moon phase rings have some minor oxidation. The original crank is included. Spittler and Bailey "American Clockmakers & Watchmakers" states that G.R. Clock & Mantel Co. was in existence c1898 - 1916 and was also known as Grand Rapids Clock Co. and were the successors to Dryden-Anin-Rose Clock Co. and manufactured hall clocks and art mantles in Mission, Colonial, and Dutch Revival styles.
